Of all the things I have been asked to do in order to get my Website
together, this is, by far, the hardest. “You need to write
a bio of your life,” they said. “We’ll place it
prominently and proudly on your site,” I was told; as if I
was sitting down to write about one of my characters. Well, it has
turned out to be the last thing I have done. I thought about it
for a long time and decided that the best thing to do was just start
writing. Perhaps my life story will flow as freely as one of my
novels.
I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, but when I was nine, my family moved
to Albuquerque, New Mexico. I was fortunate to grow up in a fairly
small town; horses and mountains were my weekend activity. My girlfriends
and I made many forays into the mesa hunting for arrowheads and
horned toad lizards. My mother and father were always ready with
a box or crate of some sort to house the many critters I would proudly
bring home.
I currently reside in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia; but between
New Mexico and Georgia, I lived in Maryland, Illinois, South Dakota,
and Florida. I loved living in Florida, mainly because I had spent
most of my youth in the desert with the mountains so near and water
much too far away. Having the Gulf Coast less than a mile from my
front door was a welcome change. Unfortunately, the time spent in
Ft. Walton Beach was much too brief. A job offer in Atlanta caused
yet another change of scenery for my husband and me. We have been
in Atlanta for almost fifteen years. We do look forward to the day
when we can retire to the mountains. We will have gone full circle.
Thinking back, I’ve had many experiences that most people
only read and wonder about. I have jumped out of airplanes, took
a stab at scuba diving, and hiked to the top of Diamond Head, the
volcano in Hawaii. I also spent many a summer traveling around the
country on a motorcycle; not only as a passenger, but the operator
as well. It’s quite an invigorating experience and one that
I highly recommend. It’s a sensory extravaganza of enormous
magnitude. For me, I could fully appreciate the smell of the ferns
after a summer shower on my way to the Grand Canyon, or watching
the wave of heat coming off the pavement in Death Valley.
In my life, have loved and I have lost but each time I have learned
to love again. I am married to the same man for nearly twenty years
now. We share the same love of the outdoors; we enjoy fishing and
the quiet serenity that surrounds it. We also have an affinity for
dogs and horses. We don't own any horses at this time, but we do
have two little pooches who have been our constant companions for
nearly sixteen years. They have been our “children”
so to speak.
Well, that’s a little insight into the life of Debbie. I
hope you have enjoyed reading about it as I have had living it.
See you in the pages of my books!
